The first Global Meeting of National Focal Points of the Montevideo Programme V (the Montevideo Programme V meeting) was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally scheduled to take place from 23-25 March 2020 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but has been tentatively postponed to the first quarter of 2021 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The meeting is being organized pursuant to resolution 4/20 of the UN Environment Assembly that adopted the Montevideo Programme. Participants will provide guidance to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) on relevant institutional and implementation arrangements for the programme, together with identifying needs and priorities in the field of environmental rule of law.
The Montevideo Programme V is an intergovernmental programme designed to promote the development and implementation of environmental rule of law, strengthen the related capacity in countries, and contribute to the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda.
