EU Chemicals Policy 2030

The European Commission and its organising partner – the Ministry for Environment and Food of Denmark – are inviting all stakeholders involved in the EU chemicals policy to this event. Participants will discuss recent developments in the EU chemicals policy and future steps and potential developments of the EU chemicals policy in order to improve the protection of human health and the environment – in line with the 2030 Agenda – as well as to support the good functioning of the internal market while enhancing the competitiveness and innovation of EU industry.

EU chemicals policy encompasses more than 40 pieces of legislation, covering the chemicals producing sector, but also related downstream industries that use chemicals, including the full lifecycle of products manufactured and those imported in Europe and the protection of the environment. During the past few years, the European Commission has been working on three major evaluations within the EU chemicals policy: the REACH Review, published in March 2018, which evaluates REACH and proposes actions to improve its implementation; an assessment of options for the improved interface between chemicals, products and waste legislation, published in 2018 within the context of the EU Circular Economy Action Plan; and an evaluation (Fitness Check) of the most relevant EU chemicals legislation (excluding REACH), which will be published in the first half of June 2019.
