EGM on SDG 1 and Its Interlinkages with Other SDGs

The Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on SDG 1 and Its Interlinkages with Other SDGs will explore the linkages among SDG 1 (no poverty) and other SDGs that will be under review during the July 2024 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), namely SDG 2 (zero hunger), SDG 13 (climate action), SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions), and SDG 17 (partnerships for the Goals). The meeting aims to take stock of progress towards SDG 1, identify innovative solutions, discuss what could be done differently to address challenges, and consider how to strengthen the enabling environment for ending poverty, including in relation to the climate crisis and other challenges.

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the World Bank, and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) organize the event with the support of interested UN system organizations. The EGM will prepare the 2024 HLPF review of SDG 1 and help inform HLPF sessions and identify collaboration and programmes of work on SDG 1.

The 2024 HLPF is the first one following the SDG Summit. Within this context, the EGM will also discuss how to harness the political momentum from the Summit. Participants will also consider how SDG 1 progress can generate synergies across the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and how progress on other SDGs can be aligned with poverty reduction.
