This workshop is being convened by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), in collaboration with the South African National Biodiversity Institute and with financial support from Norway, the UK and the UN-REDD Programme. Its purpose is to consult effectively with parties on the development of advice on relevant safeguards for biodiversity, so that REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, as well as conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks) actions are consistent with the CBD objectives, and avoid negative impacts on, and enhance benefits for biodiversity.
