Africa: Advancing Partnerships and Responsible Business Leadership

UN Global Compact Local Networks, UN organizations, private sector representatives, policymakers and other stakeholders will gather at this UN Global Compact in Africa Conference to explore partnership models, build capacity, facilitate private sector participation in the post-2015 process, and promote governance and integrity issues. A week of sessions will begin with the XII Annual Local Network Forum (ALNF) and Annual Meeting of the Human Rights and Labour Working Group (HRLWG). Plenaries will cover: The Role of Business in Africa's Economic Transformation: Innovative Approaches to Job Creation and Inclusive Growth; and Partnerships to Implement the Post-2015 Development Agenda. Working Group Sessions are planned on: Partnerships for Education, Job Creation and Skills Training; South-South Collaboration for Sustainable Growth; Philanthropy, Impact Investing and Partnerships in Support of Effective Social Investment; Localizing Innovative Partnership Platforms; Disaster Preparedness and Resilience; Collaboration with the Private Sector to Address Inequality; Cultivating Stronger Relationships with Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Local-level Subsidiaries; Addressing the Operational Challenges of UN-Business Partnerships; Social Sustainability: The Business Case for Inclusive Growth and People-Centered Development; Environmental Sustainability: Addressing the Resource Triad Challenge; Ethical Dimension of Sustainability: Collective Action to Advance Organizational Change and Tackle Systematic Barriers; and Advancing Supply Chain Sustainability and Responsible Business in Support of Peace. The event will also feature an Ethiopian CEO Roundtable, an Africa Private Sector Dinner on 'Youth Employment and Private Sustainability Finance,' a Great Lakes Private Sector Responsible Investment Roundtable; and a visit to the Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union. The UN Global Compact, UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) are organizing the event.
