8th Green Standards Week

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat), UN University (UNU), UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Basel Convention and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP, or UN Environment), in partnership with the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF) and Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), are organizing the eighth edition of the Green Standards Week.

The Green Standards Week acts as a global platform for discussion and knowledge sharing to raise awareness of the importance of and opportunities for using information and communication technologies (ICTs) to protect the environment, unlock the potential of circular economy and expedite the transition to smart sustainable cities.

Dedicated to the theme ‘Linking circular economy and industry 4.0,’ the 2018 Green Standards Week will bring together leading specialists in the field, including policy-makers, engineers, designers, smart city planners, government officials, regulators, standards experts, academia and others. Participants will discuss, inter alia: ICT, environment and climate change; and artificial intelligence and “internet of things” in the development of smart sustainable cities under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They are also expected to address regional issues for Africa and the Arab region, and receive training on e-waste statistics.
