42nd Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum

The 42nd Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum (GHACOF 42), themed '2015 El Niño impacts and lessons learned in the Greater Horn of Africa,' will take place from 22-23 February 2016, in Kigali, Rwanda. GHACOF 42 will bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including climate scientists, researchers, applications experts from critical socioeconomic sectors, governmental and non-governmental organizations, decision makers and civil society representatives. Workshops will be held on agriculture and food security, water resources, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and health, among others. During the Forum, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) will officially launch a live web-map to monitor climate and associated hazards in the Greater Horn of Africa region to improve accessibility to climate and hazard data. The Forum will be preceded by a capacity-building workshop for regional climate experts to be held at ICPAC, from 15-20 February 2016.
