25th Session of the Committee on Sustainable Energy

The 25th session of the Committee on Sustainable Energy will focus on: 'Energy for Sustainable Development'; how to deliver on national commitments in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); and potential solutions to be agreed on at an Energy Ministerial that will take place during the Eighth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development in Astana, Kazakhstan, on 11 June 2017. The Committee will also exchange views on, inter alia: national actions; market realities in the context of low oil and gas prices; decision making during periods of risk and uncertainty; and the impact of decarbonization on fossil fuel assets, fossil fuel producers and energy markets in Europe. Topics addressed will also include: the effect of oil prices on the sustainable energy agenda; measuring and tracking progress regarding energy productivity; gaps between actions and nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and between NDCs and outcomes; the role of fossil fuels in a future energy system; the water, food and energy nexus and connections with smart cities and transport; and methane management in extractive industries. This meeting is being organized by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
