2017 World Cities Day

The global observation of 2017 World Cities Day (WCD) will be held in Guangzhou, China, on 31 October. Organized by the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China (MOHURD) and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, and hosted by Guangzhou Municipal Government, the event will bring together representatives of international organizations, government officials and mayors, as well as scholars on urban planning and construction management.

The general WCD theme is ‘Better City, Better Life’. The annual theme of 2017 WCD is ‘Innovative Governance, Open Cities,’ which helps advance worldwide implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda. 2017 WCD will seek to exchange and showcase innovative practices around the world in urban planning, building and management, and discuss how to further implement New Urban Agenda. Specific activities to take place during the event include WCD Forum, WCD-Urban Governance Innovation Practices Exhibition and Urban Cultural Exchange.
