President of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Lok Bahadur Thapa has informed Member States that the functional commissions of ECOSOC, UN system organizations, and other intergovernmental bodies and forums have provided more than 50 inputs to the 2026 session of the UN High-level Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).

In a letter dated 31 March 2026, the ECOSOC President encourages Member States to review these contributions, including in preparation for the Ministerial Declaration of the 2026 ECOSOC High-level Segment and the HLPF.

The Secretariat had prepared a synthesis of voluntary submissions by functional commissions of the ECOSOC and other intergovernmental bodies and forums since 2016, to support thematic reviews of progress on the SDGs conducted by the HLPF. In May 2025, it discontinued the synthesis of submissions “[i]n the light of the liquidity situation affecting the regular budget of the United Nations and the related management measures implemented by the Secretary-General.” Instead, these submissions can be accessed directly through the HLPF inputs database.

Held on the theme, ‘Transformative, equitable, innovative and coordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for a sustainable future for all,’ HLPF 2026 will carry out in-depth reviews of SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy), SDG 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities), and SDG 17 (partnerships for the Goals). The Forum will take place from 7-15 July, convening from 7-10 July under the auspices of the ECOSOC, followed by a three-day ministerial segment of the HLPF, from 13-15 July.

The HLPF will adopt an intergovernmentally agreed ministerial declaration, currently available as a “zero draft.” Permanent Representative of Albania Suela Janina and Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone Michael Imran Kanu are co-facilitating these negotiations.

In addition, 36 countries will present voluntary national reviews (VNRs) of their implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the national level. These are Albania, Algeria, Bahrain, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Egypt, Estonia, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Italy, Jamaica, Jordan, Kiribati, Liberia, Malawi, the Marshall Islands, Mozambique, Norway, Moldova, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Somalia, Switzerland, Togo, Tonga, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Tanzania, and Uruguay.
