The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (the Commission) held its 23rd session at UN Headquarters, in New York, US, from 2 March-9 April 2009.

During the session, the Commission carried out work in plenary meetings and proceeded with the technical examination of submissions made by Indonesia, Japan, and jointly by Mauritius and Seychelles, on the limits of their continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea is measured, in accordance with article 76 of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. The Commission also heard an update on the activities of the UN Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea related to training courses for delineation of the outer limits of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles and for the preparation of a submission to the Commission, as well as an update regarding the status of relevant trust funds. The Commission decided that it would resume its 23rd session from 3-7 August 2009, and will hold its 24th session from 10 August-11 September 2009.
