9 October 2009: On World Post Day, celebrated annually on 9 October, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) has called attention to its initiative to measure the postal industry’s carbon footprint, with the objective of proposing industry-wide measures to reduce it.
UPU Director General Edouard Dayan discussed the initiative in a message that indicated the findings of the study will be presented to the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference in December.
UPU is partnering with PostEurop and the International Post Corporation to develop a common greenhouse gas inventory standard that will contain the main common principles for quantitative reporting. [UN Press Release]
