3 December 2010: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has released the summary report of the Second Global Private Donor Forum, held on 26 October 2010, at the margins of the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the CBD in Nagoya, Japan.

The Private Donor Forum gathered prominent figures from diverse sectors, including business, private foundations and the international political platform and highlighted the message of the CBD’s Third Global Biodiversity Outlook, that the five main global drivers of biodiversity loss – habitat loss, the unsustainable use and overexploitation of resources, climate change, the spread of invasive alien species, and pollution – have not only remained more or less constant over the last decade, but are in some cases intensifying. The Forum called upon its participants to move forward towards private financial commitments for biodiversity conservation. A memorandum of understanding was signed between AEON Environmental Foundation and the CBD. [Summary of the Second Global Private Donor Forum]
