30 October 2011: European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy sent a letter to their G20 partners summarizing the EU expectations ahead of the G20 summit to be held in Cannes, France, from 3-4 November 2011, including on food security, financing for development and climate change.

The EU’s expectations include: ensuring food security and promoting the G20 development agenda and innovative financing, by fully endorsing the Action Plan on Food Price Volatility and Agriculture agreed by G20 Agriculture Ministers and discussing the report by Bill Gates on Financing for Development; and tackling further the global climate and energy challenges, by pushing for a successful outcome at the Durban Climate Change Conference to be held in late 2011 in South Africa, and by conducting further work on mobilizing climate change finance.
