3 January 2011: Pamela Cox has been appointed the World Bank’s Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific, moving from her role as Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Hasan Tuluy has been appointed to take up the LAC position.
Cox has served as Chief of Country Operations in Cambodia, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar/Burma, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. Among her areas of expertise is disaster risk management. As VP for East Asia and the Pacific, which covers 22 countries, she will oversee Bank support for Pacific Island countries, which the Bank notes face some of the most serious challenges related to disaster risk and climate change. She will oversee a US$29.7 billion lending portfolio.
Tuluy, prior to becoming Vice President for Latin America, was the Bank’s Vice President for Human Resources. He also served as Chief Operating Officer for the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), as Director of Strategy & Operations in the Middle East and North Africa Region, and as Director of Corporate Strategy. Tuluy will oversee a portfolio of over US$17 billion in loans, grants and credits, serving 31 countries in the region.
