30 January 2012: The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has signed a loan with the Government of Sri Lanka to support the Iranamadu Irrigation Development Project.

The project will improve irrigation infrastructure, support crop diversification and create new market opportunities for smallholder farmers. The project is expected to benefit 7,000 households and will involve training of farmers in rainwater harvesting to increase adaptive resilience to climate change.
