17 May 2012: The Government of Brazil has reached an agreement with hotels in Rio de Janeiro to reduce the costs of accommodations during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) and immediately preceding meetings, for the period 12-23 June 2012.

A letter dated 17 May, from the National Secretary Brazilian Organizing Committee and circulated by the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the UN, notes that in addition to discounts on hotel rates, the agreement removes the obligation to buy package deals during that period.
