4 July 2012: The Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF) has produced a white paper arguing that strategies to achieve CTI objectives also have been effective in achieving commitments from the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED, or Rio Earth Summit), and now offer an opportunity to deliver on new emerging priorities from the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

Launched on 19 June 2012, on the sidelines of Rio+20, the paper underscores that Rio+20’s themes and priorities present an opportunity for CTI-CFF to be utilized as a collaborative framework to expedite implementation and action on coral reefs, fisheries and food security.

The paper, titled “A Platform for Delivering on the Rio+20 UNCSD Commitments,” also notes that CTI countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea (PNG), the Philippines, Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste, are ready to collaborate to deliver strong outcomes for oceans, fisheries and biodiversity in light of their economic, social and environmental significance.
