SPC19 November 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), together with the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), and UN Women, convened the “Regional Gender Mainstreaming Stocktake and Gender Statistics Meeting,” in Nadi, Fiji, in early November.

Attended by representatives from the Pacific region, the meeting focused on sharing and discussing information gleaned from SPC’s work undertaking “gender stocktakes.” According to SPC, gender stocktakes were completed from 2009-2010 for six countries Pacific countries, the Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Marshall Islands, the Solomon Islands and Tonga. The meeting discussed the results of the stocktakes, which highlighted both gaps and entry points for advancing gender equality in those countries. Many other Pacific Island countries expressed interest in carrying out similar investigations. [SPC Press Release]
