30 November 2012: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) organized a side event at the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), on 30 November 2012 in Doha, Qatar, to discuss promoting energy efficiency solutions in the GCC region.

Presentations at the side event covered several topics, including: the role of energy efficiency in cutting energy consumption; solid-state lighting technology; Saudi Aramco’s energy management and co-generation programmes; energy efficiency at the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC); and energy efficiency initiative of the Dubai Carbon Centre (DCC) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The side event brought together representatives from: the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), Saudi Arabia; the DCC, UAE; the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia; Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia; and SABIC, Saudi Arabia.
