4 June 2014: The Clean Energy Finance Summit has held the inaugural meeting of the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance, a global public-private platform created to leverage private sector investments in low-carbon, climate-resilient infrastructure in developing countries. The meeting represented an opportunity for the Global Innovation Lab to consider proposals for raising private finance in consultation with experts from pension funds, investment banks and development finance institutions in developed and developing countries.
The Summit also took steps towards building a set of principles and instruments for countries to attract private investments in clean energy, some of which will be forwarded to the UN Secretary General’s Climate Summit in September 2014.
Speaking at the event, UK Energy and Climate Change Minister Greg Barker said cooperation between governments and the private sector can help “mobilize investment to help drive low carbon growth in developing countries and open up new markets for UK plc.”
HRH The Prince Charles of Wales and the United Kingdom (UK) Department of Energy and Climate Change co-hosted the Summit in London, UK, from 3-4 June 2014. Countries participating in the Summit included Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Malaysia, Uganda, Germany, Japan, Sweden, the Netherlands and Norway. [Government of the UK Press Release]
