June 2018: Climate Watch has launched a website that identifies potential alignment of targets, actions, policy measures and needs highlighted in countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) with SDG targets. The NDC-SDG Linkages website includes a clickable world map, which indicates how closely aligned each SDG and its 169 targets are with each country’s NDC.

17 July 2018: An event convened in the margins of the 2018 session of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) celebrated the launch of the report titled, ‘Measuring Up: How the UK is performing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.’ Organized by UK Stakeholders for Sustainable Development (UKSSD) and hosted by PwC, the discussion reviewed the report’s key findings and methodology.

17 July 2018: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has launched two online decision support tools for climate change, which will, inter alia, help Pacific countries navigate climate change adaptation and finance, and support the regional management of climate change information in the Pacific by adding to the functionality of SPREP’s Pacific Climate Change Portal (PCCP).

17 July 2018: On Tuesday, 17 July 2018, on the sidelines of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) organized a side event which provided a platform for participants to exchange perspectives on chemicals and waste, including challenges and opportunities for sound management, in the context of SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production).

16 July 2018: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP, or UN Environment) and Google have announced a partnership that combines environmental science and big data to expand knowledge on the impacts of human activity on global ecosystems. The partnership, launched during the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), will enable all countries to have equal access to the latest technology and information to support achievement of their environmental and development goals.

16 July 2018: The EU and China have issued a joint statement underscoring their commitment to step up cooperation to enhance the implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change, including through a “firm determination” to work with all stakeholders to tackle climate change, implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and promote low greenhouse gas (GHG) emission, climate-resilient and sustainable development globally.

16 July 2018: A series of events convened under the auspices of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) have highlighted potential “enablers” as well as key impediments in achieving land degradation neutrality (LDN), the third target under Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15 (life on land). SDG 15 is one of the six Goals under review at the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2018.

28 June 2018: The National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Global Network, whose Secretariat is hosted by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), has published two sNAPshot country briefs, highlighting strategic communications for the NAP process in Saint Lucia and adaptation funding in Cambodia through the country’s national budget. The UNFCCC Secretariat has received Fiji’s NAP.
