WWRP Launches Tool on Regional Ensemble Forecasts of High-Impact Weather

The World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has launched 'TIGGE-LAM,' a new tool that aims to improve regional ensemble forecasts of high-impact weather, thereby strengthening early warning and disaster prevention.

wwrp28 March 2014: The World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has launched ‘TIGGE-LAM,’ a new tool that aims to improve regional ensemble forecasts of high-impact weather, thereby strengthening early warning and disaster prevention.

TIGGE-LAM is a single web portal that groups European ensemble systems in a standard data format. It is hosted by the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and currently includes five systems, with five more to be added in the near future. Among other things, the tool will enable users to compare models and improve the methodologies for generating and applying regional ensemble forecasts.

TIGGE-LAM is part of the weather contribution to the GEO System of Systems (GEOSS) and has been developed as part of the EU-funded project for GEOSS interoperability for Weather, Ocean and Water (GEOWOW). [WMO Press Release] [TIGGE-LAM Data Portal] [WWRP Website]
