4 December 2009: The WorldFish Center, a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), has released a publication titled “Climate change and fisheries: vulnerability and adaptation in Cambodia,” which highlights the importance of fisheries for Cambodian livelihoods and food security.
The brief notes that climate change may compound the boom-bust cycle of capture fisheries and calls for adaptation planning in other sectors, such as irrigation and hydroelectricity, to consider their potential impacts on sustainable fisheries. It also suggests that conserving wild fisheries and enhancing aquaculture can act as adaptation strategies to compensate for the loss of low-lying farmland. [The Brief]
