World Water Week, which took place from 20-26 August, in Stockholm, Sweden, was organized around the theme: “Beyond the River – Sharing Benefits and Responsibilities.” An annual global meeting place for capacity-building, partnership-building and follow-up on the implementation of international processes and programmes in water and development, the event addressed livelihood improvement, land-based activities within a river basin, and society’s ability to cope with natural disasters. Individual sessions also covered issues such as governance, follow-up to the Fourth World Water Forum, and public-private partnerships.
