SIWI30 September 2014: The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) has released a report, titled ‘2014 Overarching Conclusions: World Water Week in Stockholm, Energy and Water.’ The report analyzes the discussions that took place during World Water Week and teases out themes and conclusions related to the energy-water nexus.

The report outlines the outcomes of World Water Week, which was held from 1-6 September 2014, in Stockholm, Sweden, on the theme Water and Energy. The report highlights the close interdependence between the water and energy sectors and the importance of a closer understanding of the dynamics of both sectors in order to provide for sustainable energy and water supplies.

Among the issues discussed at World Water Week were: water efficiency; water valuation; a dedicated water-related sustainable development goal (SDG) as an outcome of the post-2015 development agenda process; disaster risk reduction (DRR), resilience and climate change; cross-sectoral collaboration; transboundary water management; water and energy footprints; water-smart agriculture; and access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). These issues are placed into the context of World Water Week Sessions in the report.
