August 2017: The World Bank Group and Ecofys have launched an initiative aimed at providing the most up-to-date information on existing and emerging carbon pricing initiatives at the regional, national and subnational levels. The Carbon Pricing Dashboard currently includes 46 carbon-pricing initiatives implemented or scheduled for implementation. The carbon-pricing initiatives extend over 42 national and 25 subnational jurisdictions, and cover 8 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent (Gt CO2eq), which represents 14.6% of global emissions, valued at US$52.22 billion.

The Dashboard consists of a map of regional, national and subnational carbon pricing initiatives, and enables side-by-side comparisons of up to three initiatives at a time. The initiatives are classified either as emissions trading systems (ETSs) or carbon taxes or both based on the way that they operate.

The Carbon Pricing Dashboard builds on the data contained in the annual State and Trends of Carbon Pricing reports, and complements other World Bank activities that help advance carbon pricing systems.

The Dashboard builds on the data contained in the annual State and Trends of Carbon Pricing reports, and complements other World Bank activities that help advance carbon pricing systems. These include: the Partnership for Market Readiness (PMR), which supports 18 emerging economies with financial and technical assistance to prepare and implement carbon pricing instruments; the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC), launched during the Paris Climate Change Conference to help expand collaboration between governments, businesses and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the scope of carbon pricing; the Networked Carbon Markets (NCM) initiative, a platform established in 2015 to develop post-2020 services and institutional frameworks to enhance the transparency, comparability and scalability of mitigation actions; and the CF Assist Program, launched in 2005 to support capacity building and technical assistance for carbon markets, which currently helps developing countries improve broader climate policies and initiatives.

The Dashboard is a dynamic tool, and regular updates provide users with the most current information available. [Publication: Carbon Pricing Dashboard]
