World Bank Publishes Reports on Green Water Defense in East Asia
story highlights

The World Bank has published a two-part study, titled Green Water Defense in East Asia, on sustainable water management in East Asia, focusing on climate change impacts and flooding control.

The two documents produced from the study could be used as a guide for water resources and flood risk management strategy development and urban management.

World BankOctober 2012: The Water Partnership Program (WPP) provided support for a study that aimed at providing a new approach to supporting green growth principles in water defense challenges. The two-part study, titled Green Water Defense in East Asia, focuses on the experiences and lessons learned in water and flood risk management, and recommends best practices and management models to address these challenges.

“Grow in Concert with Nature: Sustaining East Asia’s Water Resources through Green Water Defense (GWD)” focuses on the sustainable management of water resources in a changing climate. The report recognizes current GWD practices as well as the best innovative practices. The report can be used as a guide for identifying, prioritizing, and designing the recommended management measures.

“Green Water Defense for Flood Risk Management in East Asia” analyzes flood risk management in delta and coastal regions. Principles of GWD are applied to sustainable water and ecological service interactions, as well as to reduce flood risk. The report creates a set of GWD measures and provides a list of best practices that can be used as a guide for developing a management strategy and selecting cost-effective measures for reducing flood risks.
