It also noted its commitment to help fulfill the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and targets that have not yet been reached, such as preventing maternal mortality and promoting environmental sustainability.

Speaking at a seminar on ‘The Post-2015 Development Agenda: Towards a New Partnership for Development,’ in Moscow, Russian Federation, on 12 March 2014, Cyril Muller, World Bank, indicated that the Bank can leverage resources and knowledge to support “strong economic growth and to tackle rising income equality, gender imbalance, climate change and fragility.”

The event was held in the framework of Russia’s G8 Presidency, in cooperation with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank. Participants included experts, civil society, G8 country representatives, the private sector and international organizations. They discussed contributions of the G8 and international financial organizations to the post-2015 development agenda, outcomes of UN processes on post-2015, and issues of development finance.

Outcomes from the event will recommend ways that the post-2015 development agenda can be integrated into G8 discussions under the 2014 Russian presidency. [World Bank Press Release] [Russia G8 Press Release] [Seminar Agenda]
