story highlights

The US$4.35 million grant will support farmers and institutions in mainstreaming climate change adaptation measures within projects implemented by the Green Morocco Plan, which supports smallholders in marginal areas with the aim of improving their access to markets.

17 May 2011: The World Bank approved a US$4.35 million grant from the Special Climate Change Fund of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to support farmers and institutions in mainstreaming climate change adaptation measures within projects implemented by the Green Morocco Plan (Plan Maroc Vert).

The Green Morocco Plan supports smallholders in marginal areas with the aim of improving their access to markets. However, the impacts of climate change on rain patterns may jeopardize these efforts, thus creating the need to train farmers to increase crop resilience and plan their infrastructure to adapt to the consequences of climate change.
