8 March 2014: The International Partnership on Mitigation and Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) and the Partnership for Market Readiness (PMR) have convened a workshop to share best practices and build capacity for MRV of nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs) in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The event, hosted by Mexican Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) in Mexico City from 6-8 March 2014, brought together over 100 policy makers and technical experts from 10 countries to discuss the application of MRV systems to emission trading programs, mitigation actions, national reporting, and other policy mechanisms.

The objectives of the workshop were to: exchange good practice cases and build capacities for the development of MRV systems for NAMAs in the region; explore similarities and differences between MRV processes applicable to facility-level greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting and NAMAs; and discuss the reporting of GHG reductions from NAMAs in national GHG inventories.

Participants came Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay. The World Bank’s Carbon Finance Unit, host of the PMR Secretariat, helped to finance and organize the event, along with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and CAF – Development Bank of Latin America.
