Forest Carbon24 January 2014: The Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) held a workshop for participants from Argentina and seven Mesoamerican countries to take stock, analyze the experience gained, share strategy and tactics, and debate the benefits and challenges involved in social inclusion in REDD+. The workshop was held 20-24 January 2014 in Antigua, Guatemala.

After a brief introduction to recent developments regarding the climate change agreement negotiations, work on REDD+ and the programs supported by FCPF, participants presented on the current state of REDD+ readiness in Argentina, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama, and the challenges they face regarding social inclusion in REDD+. Participants also shared and discussed their experiences, strategies and tactics in adapting guides and guidelines in three areas: consultation and participation; the Strategic Economic and Social Assessment (SESA); and feedback, grievance and redress mechanisms (FGRM).

The FCPF is a global partnership of government, private sector, civil society and indigenous peoples focused on supporting REDD+ readiness, finance and implementation. The FCPF consists of the Readiness Fund, which provides grant financing to countries to develop and implement national strategies for REDD+, and the Carbon Fund, which would provide payments upon verification that emissions have been reduced. The World Bank is the Trustee of the Readiness Fund and the Carbon Fund, and provides secretariat services through a Facility Management Team.
