CFS2 May 2016: Held on 29 April 2016, at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the third meeting of the Open Ended Working Group (OEWG) on nutrition of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) continued discussions on a draft proposal on CFS engagement in advancing nutrition.

Discussion on the draft focused on the vision, functions, and “decision box.” On the vision, participants highlighted the roles of smallholder farmers and private sector, while being inclusive of other actors, and called for emphasis on reducing food loss and waste. In the discussion on functions, participants noted, among other issues, the need to avoid overburdening CFS, while opinions diverged on a reference highlighting the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement without mention of other initiatives. Participants also made suggestions on further organizing and clarifying the draft decision box.

Following consideration by the CFS Bureau, the draft is expected to be submitted to the 43rd CFS Plenary session, to be held in October 2016, at the FAO headquarters. [IISD RS Coverage of the CFS OEWG on Nutrition] [Meeting Documents] [CFS Website]
