May 2008: The symposium on “Climate Change and Variability – Agro-Meteorological Monitoring and Coping Strategies for Agriculture” will take place from 3-6 June 2008, in Oscarsborg, Norway. The symposium is organized under the auspices of the WMO Commission for Agricultural Meteorology and European Cooperation.

Participants will meet in four sessions, namely: agroclimatic indices and simulation models; current trends of agroclimatic indices and simulation model output; developing and assessing future regional and local scenarios of agroclimatic conditions; and risks and foreseen impacts on agriculture. Break-out group discussions will deliberate on: determination of critical areas for climate change and variability; current status of strategies for mitigation, adaptation and sustainability; current capabilities in the analysis of climate risks and adaptation; and coping with climate risks and foreseen impacts in agriculture. A selected number of papers will be published as the proceedings of the symposium in 2009.
