WMO Releases Technical Material for Water Resources Assessment

A new report, titled “Technical Material for Water Resources Assessment,” has been released by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ahead of the 14th Session of the Commission on Hydrology (CHy), which will take place from 6-14 November 2012, in Geneva, Switzerland.

WMO23 October 2012: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has released a report on water resources assessment in advance of the upcoming Commission on Hydrology (CHy) meeting. The report aims to provide resources for those carrying out water resources assessments in particular focusing on how to carry out such analyses.

The report, titled “Technical Material for Water Resources Assessment,” provides an overview of water resources assessment, and features chapters on: review of existing information; data collection, processing and quality control; precipitation analysis; evaporation; surface water; groundwater; water availability; impacts on water resources; and presentation of results.

The report addresses a number of cross-cutting issues, such as linkages with sustainable development, integrated water resources management (IWRM), climate change, pollution and land use change. The WMO CHy will convene for its 14th session from 6-14 November 2012, in Geneva, Switzerland. [Publication: Technical Material for Water Resources Assessment]
