2008: The World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO) Expert Team on
Urban Building Climatology is meeting at WMO headquarters, in Geneva, Switzerland region,
from 28-29 July 2008. The Team is one of the WMO Commission for Climatology’s
Expert Teams focusing on climate applications to socioeconomic sectors.

According to its terms of reference, the Expert Team on
Urban Building Climatology aims to, inter
alia
: develop the urban building climatology science that will be used by
National Meteorological and Hydrological Services; further the application of
such science; facilitate training of National Meteorological and Hydrological
Services’ staff to help them interact better with the end-users of urban
meteorological, climatological and hydrological services; provide guidance on
the design and conduct of specific demonstration and pilot projects, including
the calculation of cost/benefits and value of climate predictions from the users’
point of view; and explore, document and make recommendations for addressing
the needs for capacity building in each region. [Expert Group’s Terms of Reference]
