The UNFCCC Secretariat published a report of the 33rd meeting of the LEG, during which the Group finalized its recommendations to the SBI on updating the LDC work programme.

16 March 2018: The Executive Committee (ExCom) of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage (WIM) and the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Expert Group (LEG) convened in preparation for the Bonn Climate Change Conference. The ExCom, inter alia, considered the report from the Task Force on Displacement. The LEG developed its rolling work programme for 2018-2019.

The seventh meeting of the ExCom (ExCom 7) advanced intersessional work related to slow onset events, and discussed collaboration with the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and its communication strategy, including engagement with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The Committee established a technical expert group on slow onset events organizations, centers and networks; a technical expert group on comprehensive risk management approaches; and a technical expert group on non‐economic losses. The ExCom also adopted the “universal” terms of reference (ToR) for the three expert groups. ExCom 7 convened in Bonn, Germany, from 13-16 March 2018. ExCom 7 established technical expert groups on: slow onset events organizations, centers and networks; comprehensive risk management approaches; and non‐economic losses.

The UNFCCC Secretariat published a report of the 33rd meeting of the LEG, which took place in São Tomé, São Tomé and Príncipe, from 5-9 February 2018. In addition to agreeing on its rolling work programme, during the meeting, the LEG finalized its recommendations to the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) on updating the LDC work programme, and its consideration of needs related to adaptation arising from the Paris Agreement on climate change and relevant decisions adopted by the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21). The meeting also addressed, among other issues, support of developing countries in accessing Green Climate Fund (GCF) funding for the process to formulate and implement national adaptation plans (NAPs), and continued provision of support by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for implementation of the LDC work programme, including preparation and implementation of national adaptation programmes of action (NAPAs). The Bonn Climate Change Conference is scheduled to take place from 30 April to 10 May 2018. It will include the 48th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), and the fifth part of the first session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Paris Agreement (APA 1-5).
