discussed health risks from climate change at a meeting in Madrid, Spain, from
6-8 October 2008, and agreed on a research agenda for the topic.

The research
plan was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) with input from
researchers in the field, and makes note of five priority research areas:
interactions of climate change with other health-related determinants and
trends; direct and indirect climate impacts on human health; effectiveness of
various strategies to contend with climate-related health impacts; health
implications of climate mitigation and adaptation strategies; and means to
enhance public health systems. [WHO
