June 2010: The World Food Programme (WFP) has released its annual report for 2010, titled “Fighting Hunger Worldwide.” The report indicates that the number of hungry people worldwide grew to over one billion.

It notes that more than 100 million people received food and nutrition assistance from WFP. While many people were not able to afford food, in particular the rural poorest of the poor, many were affected due to man-made disasters and natural disasters. The report indicates that, to forecast, monitor and deliver early warnings of climate-related hazards, WFP has signed a memorandum of understanding with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and uses satellite and other remote sensing technologies.
