WBCSD Report Explores Business Models for Energy Poverty Alleviation

17 January 2012: The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) has published a new report, titled “Business Solutions to Enable Energy Access for All,” which is the first major publication of its Access to Energy initiative.

The report aims to present key opportunities to activate and scale-up private sector involvement in expanding access to energy. It contains chapters specifically on: the role of business, scaling up the business contribution, business model innovation, enabling policy frameworks, and financing mechanisms. It highlights 19 case studies of companies already moving into this field, providing concrete examples of business model innovation to provide affordable, reliable products and services while overcoming barriers and increasing profitability and scalability in low-income markets.
