WBCSD Launches CEO Guide to Water

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) launched its ‘CEO Guide to Water,’ which highlights business opportunities connected with water, and makes the business case for responsible stewardship of water resources.

The Guide argues for businesses to take a risk management approach to water-related challenges.

18 March 2018: The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) has launched its ‘CEO Guide to Water,’ which highlights business opportunities connected with water, and makes the business case for responsible stewardship of water resources. Several global businesses, including food and beverage companies Diageo, Nestlé, PepsiCo, and Veolia, have supported the publication.

The CEO Guide to Water argues for businesses to take a risk management approach to water-related challenges. The guide was launched at the eighth World Water Forum (WWF8) in Brasilia, Brazil, which hosted a Business Day for the first time.

The guide proposes a seven-step process towards better stewardship of water.

The guide proposes a seven-step process towards better stewardship of water, which includes ensuring oversight by company boards to integrate water considerations into their business strategy; setting meaningful and ambitious goals; valuing water appropriately; and collectively addressing shared water risks and opportunities. The guide also calls for raising awareness and creating engagement among companies’ employees, suppliers and consumers, and for policies that support business investment in water-smart solutions.
