2008: The UN World
Tourism Organization (UNWTO) launched two publications on World Environment
Day, 5 June 2008. The first, produced in collaboration with the UN Environment
Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), as well as
the University of Oxford’s Centre for the Environment, focuses on “Climate
Change Adaptation and Mitigation in the Tourism Sector: Frameworks, Tools and
Practices.”

This publication covers issues including the contribution of
tourism to climate change, the financing of adaptation, and mitigation
opportunities in the airline industry. The second report, entitled “Climate
Change and Tourism: Responding to Global Challenges,” was commissioned by
UNWTO, UNEP and WMO in preparation for the second International Conference on
Climate Change and Tourism, which took place in Davos, Switzerland, from 1-3
October 2007. It includes the Davos Declaration on Climate Change and Tourism,
as well as discussions of: the implications of climate change for tourism
demand patterns; emissions from global climate tourism; and mitigation
policies. [“Climate
