The UN System Task Team (UNTT) on the Post-2015 UN Development Agenda released a report providing recommendations on a renewed global partnership for development to support the post-2015 agenda.
The report, which reflects findings from global and national thematic consultations on the post-2015 development agenda, recommends a broader and deeper renewed global partnership for development than the current one, as set out in Millenium Development Goal (MDG) 8.
27 March 2013: The UN System Task Team (UNTT) on the Post-2015 UN Development Agenda released a report providing recommendations on a renewed global partnership for development to support the post-2015 agenda. The report, which reflects findings from global and national thematic consultations on the post-2015 development agenda, recommends a broader and deeper renewed global partnership for development than the current one, as set out in Millenium Development Goal (MDG) 8. It further recommends, inter alia: universal collective action and a more equitable, inclusive system of global governance to create an enabling environment for development at all levels; explicit country commitments across goals and targets of the post-2015 development agenda; and robust accountability mechanisms.
The report states that, while existing commitments remain relevant, new thinking is required to reflect the “new and more multi-polar development landscape” with participation of all relevant stakeholders. It highlights lessons learned from the current global partnership for development, including its role in galvanizing action, providing debt relief and improving access to information and communications technology (ICT). It also recommends accelerating progress on the MDGs and addressing the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) Outcome Document.
The report includes chapters on: lessons learned from the present global partnership; strengths and weaknesses of the global partnership; learning from multi-stakeholder partnerships; desirable dimensions of a renewed global partnership; financing sustainable development post-2015; engaging new and emerging actors; strengthening global governance; format of a new global partnership; and strengthening global mutual accountability. It includes annexes on MDG8 targets and indicators and on the UN process for designing a renewed global partnership and related publications.
