UNITAR, SAICM Train DRC Stakeholders on the GHS

The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), with financial support from the Secretariat of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) Quick Start Programme (QSP) Trust Fund, has trained 30 participants from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on the Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).

SAICM UNITAR23 January 2014: The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), with financial support from the Secretariat of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) Quick Start Programme (QSP) Trust Fund, has trained 30 participants from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on the Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).

The training took place in Kinshasa, from 22-23 January 2014, and was attended by government and NGO representatives. Participants provided input into draft sectoral GHS implementation plans, which will provide the basis for DRC’s National GHS Implementation Strategy.

According to UNITAR, the DRC plans to continue awareness-raising on the GHS and undertake training activities in the industrial workplace, agriculture, transport, and consumer products, sectors. [UNITAR Press Release]
