5 July 2008: The Workshop on Biodiversity and Climate Change took place from 29 June to 4 July 2008, in Kushiro, Japan. It was co-organized by the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Kushiro International Wetland Centre, in partnership with the Japan-UNDP Partnership Fund and the Secretariats of the Ramsar Convention and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The workshop brought together 36 participants from 23 countries of the Asia-Pacific region and included interactive lectures, study visits and practical exercises. The event aimed to: support the sharing of scientific facts and policies on biodiversity, wetlands and climate change; provide analytical knowledge to understand and use the scientific
data and documentation; facilitate an exchange of ideas; and strengthen the Kushiro/UNITAR network of experts in wetlands, biodiversity and climate change. [Workshop website]
