UNITAR Assists Zambia in Implementing Globally Harmonized System

The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), together with the Zambian Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA), convened a workshop on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) in Lusaka, Zambia, on 5 February 2013.

5 February 2013: The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), together with the Zambian Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA), convened a workshop on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) in Lusaka, Zambia, on 5 February 2013.

Attended by over 50 participants from government, industry, civil society, and academia, the workshop provided an opportunity for participants to review the progress made by Zambia in terms of GHS implementation. During the meeting, participants endorsed the National GHS Implementation Strategy, and ZEMA launched a website dedicated to GHS. A Zambian documentary on chemicals safety and understanding chemical labels was presented.

This event was part of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) project “Strengthening national capacities for SAICM Implementation and GHS Capacity Building in Zambia,” funded by the Quick Start Programme (QSP) Trust Fund.
