UNITAR Assists Madagascar on Governance for SAICM Implementation

As part of Madagascar's Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) project titled “Strengthening Capacities in the Republic of Madagascar for National SAICM Implementation and Supporting Globally Harmonized System (GHS) Capacity Building,” the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), together with the Ministry of Environment and Forests of the Republic of Madagascar, hosted the National Forum on Governance for Chemicals Management.

12 March 2013: As part of Madagascar’s Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) project titled “Strengthening Capacities in the Republic of Madagascar for National SAICM Implementation and Supporting Globally Harmonized System (GHS) Capacity Building,” the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), together with the Ministry of Environment and Forests of the Republic of Madagascar, hosted the National Forum on Governance for Chemicals Management.

According to UNITAR, 55 participants from the public and private sector participated in the workshop, which took place in Antananarivo, Madagascar on 12 March. The workshop aimed to raise national awareness about SAICM, and also reviewed and endorsed the National SAICM Implementation Plan, agreed to an interministerial coordination mechanism, and approved a stakeholder involvement policy and an information exchange mechanism.
