UNITAR Assists Guinea in Finalizing National SAICM Implementation Plan

The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), together with the Ministry of Environment, Guinea, convened a workshop on the national implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) in Conakry, Guinea, from 24-25 January 2013.

29 January 2013: The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), together with the Ministry of Environment, Guinea, convened a workshop on the national implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) in Conakry, Guinea, from 24-25 January 2013.

Attended by 45 representatives of the public and private sectors, civil society, and academia, the workshop took place as part of the project on “Developing an Integrated National Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals and SAICM Implementation in the Republic of Guinea.”

The workshop raised national awareness of SAICM, and participants also reviewed and endorsed the National SAICM Implementation Plan and planned follow-up initiatives. Priorities for follow-up include the implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), and the establishment of a Poisons Information Centre in Guinea.
