© UNITAR6 April 2009: The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) have entered into a collaborative effort to help build capacity for climate change adaptation. Under the partnership, UNEP’s Division of Early Warning and Assessment will develop a joint module, based on the training resources developed under the UNITAR’s Climate Change Capacity Development project. The new module will then be included in UNEP’s Integrated Environmental Assessment (IEA) training manual.

The module guides the process for conducting climate change vulnerability and impact assessments in a series of climate change training workshops, organized by UNEP regional partners in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, West Asia and Europe.
This collaboration responds to outputs expected under the Belgian-financed UNEP project on integrated environmental assessments and capacity building. The aim of the IEA training manual is to help build capacity for forward-looking integrated environmental assessments. The new training module, which is expected to be available by mid-May 2009, will be tested in regional workshops and later customized for e-learning. [UNITAR press release] [IEA training manual ]
