21 September 2010: Speaking at the launch of the World Disasters Report 2010, which took place in Nairobi, Kenya, Helena Molin Valdés, Deputy Director of the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) underlined that tackling urban risk will help reduce poverty.

Published by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the report features a section on urbanization and climate change risk. Molin explained that UN/ISDR worked with IFRC in the report’s production and launch, as part of the editorial advisory board. The publication’s focus on urban risk coincides with the theme of the World Disaster Reduction Campaign “Making cities resilient- My city is getting ready!” which was launched by UN/ISDR and partners in May 2010, in Bonn, Germany.
